Your application will have three components:

    1. An online information form, filled out by you. On this form you will be asked for suitable information about you, including the names of your two references. Additionally, you will be asked to write a personal essay.
    2. Two academic reference letters (one must be from the affiliate professor at your University or College).
    3. Academic transcripts from all institutes of higher learning you have attended

The following procedure is recommended:
Discuss your intention to apply with a professor who knows you.
Ask two people to write a letter on your behalf. One of the two should be the Affiliate contact for your campus.
Write a personal essay so that it can easily be cut and pasted into the application form. Tell us of your career plans and why you would like to participate in SPIRAL.

You are now ready to click here and fill out the form.

The two letters of reference and the transcript can be sent electronically to Prof. Ken Berg at krb@math.umd.edu. Alternatively, they can be mailed to
